Welcome
to the Eau Claire Amateur Radio Club inc.
located in Eau Claire, Wisconsin USA.
N 44.48.562 W 91.30.273
The Eau Claire Amateur Radio Club (ECARC) was founded in 1947
and incorporated in1960. The club has been the home for Amateur
Radio in the Chippewa Valley for over 65 years.
We are affiliated with the
American Radio
Relay League and have earned the designation as a Mentor and
Special Service Club.
The club is comprised of members from various backgrounds.
Though we all have individual differences we share a common
interest in the hobby of Amateur Radio with its many facets.
Some club members enjoy Contesting or Chasing DX. Others enjoy
rag chewing on the clubs
repeaters on 146.910 or 147.240 MHz
(Tone 110.9 hz) or on 146.550 MHz
Simplex.
Contesting
is the competitive side of amateur radio operating. In a
Contest, an amateur radio station, which maybe operated by an
individual or a team of operators, seek to contact as many other
amateur stations as possible in a given time period and exchange
information.
The ECARC members participates in many contests during the year.
One of our favorites is the
Wisconsin QSO Party. The ECARC has captured first
place for the last four years and set the
WIQP
Contest Standing Points Record in 2010.
The
term DX come from an abbreviation for "Distance". A DXer
is someone who listens for and seeks out contacts with other
stations in distant and exotic places. DXers are known for
giving the extra effort to improve their stations and operating
skills in order to "Work" that next rare DX station some where
in the world.
The ECARC operates a well equipped
Amateur Station for
Contesting, Chasing DX or Rag Chewing.
The station is located at
Grace Lutheran Church and the club callsign is
W9EAU.
In 1989, the ECARC formed an
ARRL Volunteer Examination team to administer FCC amateur
radio examinations. The exams are adminsitered four times a year.
If you are thinking about becoming a HAM operator, just received
your license, or are a veteran ham operator, the Eau Claire
Amateur Radio Club is a great place to enjoy the hobby of
amateur radio.
Club meetings are held at Grace Luther Church on the Third
Tuesday of the month.
